Epoxy resin countertops are a new trend in the kitchen that is gaining popularity.

These countertops are made from epoxy resin and can be made to reproduce luxurious finishes like marble, but with increased durability.

Apart from the stone look, if you make imitations with paint, you have a huge variety of colors and options, it can be made in any custom color, to match your kitchen.

No subsequent sealing is required as this resin serves as a finish and does not stain or discolor like stone.

It is practical and resistant to shocks. It is also highly resistant to flame retardant heat and high temperatures, easy to clean and lightweight.

The painting process takes three to five hours including the preparation of the countertop. Epoxy can be applied to wood, natural stone, porcelain, fornicate, etc.

After 24 hours of application the surface becomes extremely hard and after one week it reaches its maximum hardness.

Different application techniques can be used so that the result and design of each countertop is different.

We manufacture epoxy resin in any custom color, to customize both the shades of the top as well as the designs, drawings, etc ...

What is Epoxy Resin

Uses of Epoxy Resin and Most Important Features

How to use an Epoxy Resin?

How to Color Clear Epoxy Resin? .

6 And if I want epoxy resin, in colors, where do I get them?

1. What is epoxy resin?

The epoxy resin is a liquid , highly viscous , transparent , which hardens by chemical reaction to the mixing with the catalyst , which causes hardening of the resin within a few hours by chemical reaction.

This catalyst only works for your resin, you cannot use a catalyst from one brand and the resin from another.

It is sold in a set of two components, where it must always be mixed in the proportion indicated by the manufacturer, for a correct hardening and application of the resin. (If we do not do it correctly, we will lose properties of the resin, or it may never dry).

2. Uses of epoxy resin and most important characteristics.

Epoxy resins or paints support a maximum temperature of 100 o C , but they do not support flame or direct fire.

It also has a very high  resistance to contact with water , since it is a waterproof resin.

It is due to its high resistance, gloss and hardness that its applications are almost unlimited, as wide as the imagination encompasses: from the realization and encapsulation of figures , decorative elements  used in  nautical (surfboards, parts for boats, etc.), repair of damaged surfaces and filling of gaps etc ...

To improve its applications, pigments or metallic pastes can be added (for decoration of floors, or countertops).

Fillers can be added to increase its resistance and thickness, (make floors more resistant) 100% solid and self-leveling.

Vinyls can be added to make 3D effects or add fiberglass.

Another of the best known and most frequent applications of epoxy resin is in the painting of floors in concrete and tile floors , especially in the coating of floors in garages, factories, warehouses and places of a sanitary / food nature , such as the following :

• Inner lining for tanks with human food content , such as oils, wines, water, etc.  EPOXY PAINT WITH CERTIFICATE TO BE IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH FOOD

• Coating of cold rooms

• Painted in general for the protection and repair of floors, baseboards and ceilings in food facilities, laboratories, health centers, warehouses , etc. • Use especially in slaughterhouses, canneries, dairy industries, cold rooms, operating rooms, veterinary centers, etc.

In the latter case, it is important to emphasize that not all epoxy paints are suitable for food use , so it is necessary that, if you plan to use it for these purposes, you make sure that the product is suitable for coming into contact with food.

Normally, there are specific paints for this which you can identify by their commercial name, but always pay attention to the labeling and the instructions and clarifications that appear in their technical sheet .

Finally, epoxy resin is also compatible with a multitude of materials , from wood to mortars (cement, concrete, etc.) passing through metals (for galvanizing, apply wash primer type), porous floors (tile, stone, brick) and applications on surfaces. glazed such as tile or glass, for which the prior addition of a primer for non-porous surfaces is necessary, which creates a chemical bond between this surface and the resin.

3. How to use an epoxy resin?

When the two components are mixed, they are catalyzed at room temperature by the chemical action of the hardener or catalyst.

It should always be mixed in the proportion indicated in the supplier's technical data sheet.

TIPS FOR A CORRECT APPLICATION.

It is very important to pay attention to these indications and tips on the application of epoxy resins, varnishes and paints:

The proportions of the mixture are given by weight: for example, 4: 1 indicates that for every 4 parts of epoxy resin, 1 part of catalyst must be used. For example, for 100 grams of resin, 25 grams of catalyst.

The mixture is gently shaken for about 3 minutes to minimize the appearance of air bubbles and later it will be added or diluted with solvent or water, (according to the technical data sheet of each product, so that it has the consistency indicated by the supplier for each use.)

Due to its high viscosity and self-leveling capacity , it is recommended to apply the 100% solid resin on horizontal surfaces or with soft slopes at low thickness.

Once catalyzed, it is poured on the surface and must be spread with a trowel, spatula or utensil with which you can spread the product on the surface and thus be evenly distributed.

In addition to the supplier's recommendations that you can read in their technical sheet, we provide you with the following APPLICATION ADVICE FOR EPOXY RESIN.

• If it is desired to reduce the viscosity of the resin , it can be heated without the application of fire or direct flame to achieve this.

You must dilute it properly as indicated by the supplier in its technical data sheet. Also applying heat, we will prevent bubbles from coming out, or we will help them to disappear.

• It is necessary to use a special epoxy solvent to clean the application tools, as indicated by the supplier in the technical data sheet of each resin.

• Hardness to the touch is obtained in 24 hours , but to obtain maximum curing and hardness it is recommended that the molded / treated part or the painted surface be not used until 7 days after completion.

• In case of layering with fiberglass , it is advisable to respect intervals of more than 7 hours between coats of application.

4. How much epoxy resin do I need?

In the technical sheet of each product, the performance will be indicated , as well as other technical characteristics, drying and repainting times, etc ...

In the case of epoxy resins, being 100% solid and self-leveling composition , the yield is 1 kg / m2 , but the maximum thicknesses allowed by the resin must be taken into account to maintain the transparency of the product , which will be between 1mm and 1.7mm thick

It can be reached up to a maximum of 5 mm while maintaining the transparency of the resin.

In the case of epoxy resins, which are not 100% solid, which are not intended to leave high thickness or self-leveling, paint for garage floors, iron, etc., the performance is usually about 10 m2 x liter x coat.

To correctly calculate the amount of resin that we have to use , knowing the performance and the thickness to which it corresponds, it is necessary to calculate the surface of the support where the product is to be applied:

• To calculate the surface of a surface to be painted, it is calculated by multiplying length (m) x width (m) x depth (m) , obtaining as a result a value in m2. If it is a wall or flat surface, without any depth, then only length (m) x width (m) is multiplied

If it is a circular surface , the surface of a circle is calculated as 3.1416 x (radius of the circle (m)) 2 , obtaining the surface in m2.

• We will have to calculate the entire surface where the resin has to be applied and know the total m2 by multiplying it by  the yield of the resin indicated in the technical sheet, we will obtain the  amount of catalyzed resin that we have to apply. It will be the total kilos of resin with catalyst that we will need. The kilos of complete product sets.

5. How to color the transparent epoxy resin?

One of the main advantages of our epoxy resins is the  amazing transparency and crystalline appearance that they present after correct curing.

Precious effects can be achieved by adding metallic pigments, aluminum paste or colorants to our resin.

It is important to ensure that the epoxy resin pigments we use are 100% solid to ensure optimal and satisfactory results. It can be mixed in any proportion , being able to get from solid colors to veined effects , and other types of metallic effects to make different combinations of colors or effects.

5. And if I want Epoxy Resin in colors, where do I get it?

We can make any custom color in two-component epoxy resin.

In all our products that have the option of custom colors from the Ral or Ncs Color Chart, you can choose the reference of the color you want and we will manufacture it for you.

Custom colors can be manufactured, both in 100% solid and self-leveling epoxy resins, for a high-build finish in one coat, and in epoxy resins or paints for floors that are not high-build.
