WHAT COLORS CAN WE ACHIEVE BY MIXING DYES? 

In this guide we go into more detail, on the colors that we can achieve using WATER-BASED  OC DYES , WHITE PLASTIC PAINT and TRANSPARENT PLASTIC PAINT.

As we've mentioned in other articles, the colors you can create with white acrylic paint and dyes will always be pastels. Intense colors must be purchased ready-made; they can never be achieved with a white base, nor can they be created using a colorless base or clear acrylic paint.

You also need to be clear that you can never mix water-based (plastic) paints with oil-based (synthetic enamel) paints.

HOW TO CREATE A GREEN COLOR?

We will mix yellow dye or colorant plus blue dye on white paint and we will obtain a green color.

Depending on the amount of yellow or blue we add to the white paint, we will obtain different shades of green.

Lemon yellow plus blue on white paint makes pistachio green.

Regular yellow plus blue on white paint makes the color leaf green.

HOW TO CREATE AN ORANGE COLOR?

We will need to mix yellow dye or colorant plus red dye on white paint to make orange color.

Similarly, depending on the amount of yellow and red we use, we will obtain a different shade of orange.

If we use a lot of red, we will get a very reddish orange; if we use a lot of yellow, the orange tone will be lighter, more yellowish.

But if you're looking for orange, you have to mix yellow and red.

HOW TO CREATE A PURPLE COLOR?

Purple has many shades. Lilac, violet, dark purple…

They are all obtained by mixing red dye or colorant with blue dye or colorant on white paint.

As with all mixtures, depending on the amount of red or blue we use, we will obtain a purple that is more reddish or more bluish.

HOW TO CREATE A PINK COLOR?

Pink is achieved by mixing red dye or colorant into white paint.

The more red dye we add, the stronger the pink tone will be.

HOW TO CREATE A BLUE COLOR?

The blue color is achieved by mixing blue dye or colorant into white paint.

If we want a light blue, we will add a little blue dye, and the darker we want it, the more blue dye we will have to add to the white.

HOW TO CREATE A TURQUOISE COLOR?

Turquoise is a variant of blue.

Turquoise is created by mixing a blue dye with a green dye.

But if we want, we can create it by mixing blue with yellow to create green, so to get this color we mix blue dye with a small proportion of yellow on white paint .

HOW TO CREATE A BROWN COLOR?

Brown can be achieved in several ways, as there are brown dyes or colorants.

Therefore, it can be achieved by mixing dark brown or tan dye into white paint, or by mixing dyes in blue, yellow, and a small proportion of red. (If we already have these dyes, we won't need to buy another brown one.)

Depending on the shade of brown we want, we will add more or less dye.

If we want a soft brown, by mixing a little dark brown or tan dye onto white paint, we will obtain a light brown color; if we want a darker brown, we can add more brown or tan dye onto white.

HOW TO CREATE AN OCHRE COLOR?

The color ochre can also be obtained in several ways since there is an ochre color dye to use on the paint.

Therefore, the easiest way to achieve an ochre color is by mixing ochre dye into white paint.

The other way is by mixing yellow dye, a small amount of black, and a little blue and red. You can use this option if you have leftover paint in these colors or pre-purchased dyes.

HOW TO CREATE THE COLOR IVORY?

The color ivory can also be achieved in several ways.

The simplest way is to add ochre dye with a little bit of red or yellow dye (depending on the shade of ivory we are looking for) over white paint.

The other way is by mixing white with black dye in equal parts plus a large part of yellow dye and a little bit of red dye. 

HOW TO CREATE A RAW OR FLESH COLOR?

Flesh color is a very ambiguous color, but we can obtain a flesh-colored paint by mixing red dye with a few drops of ochre or yellow dye into white paint.

HOW TO CREATE A GRAY COLOR?

The color gray is very easy to achieve; we only need white paint and black dye or colorant.

Depending on the amount of black dye we add, we'll get a lighter or darker gray. The more black we use, the darker the gray will be.

 HOW TO CREATE A RED COLOR?

To make red paint we need white paint and red dye.

We will never achieve a pure red, because for that we would need paint with a transparent or semi-transparent base.

But if you have red dye and white paint, you can achieve a reddish tone.

HOW CAN I MAKE AN INTENSE COLOR WITH WATER-BASED DYES?

When we add dyes to water in white paint to make a color, we can only achieve light or pastel shades, because no matter how much dye you add to white, you will never be able to achieve a dark shade.
