Which walls suffer from these types of problems?

All surfaces and mortars that include sand in their composition are susceptible to this gradual degradation.

This is something very common in cement, concrete and brick walls, as well as those that are built with sandstone.

In these cases, a water-based wall fixative will stop this erosion in its tracks.

What is a wall and facade fixer?

It is a product whose objective is none other than to consolidate the support and achieve a harder surface.

In addition, it stops the progress of the natural process of disintegration and degradation of the surface layers of the stone.

At Pinturas Angar we have a  wall fixative and hardener made from potassium silicate, an ecological mineral that guarantees impeccable results in these situations.

This liquid penetrates the stone thanks to its low viscosity and compacts its surface through a mineralization process.

This chemical reaction forms microscopic quartz crystals that help improve the original properties of the façade. One of its advantages is that it does not leave marks or residues on the stone.

With the application of the silicate consolidant , you will be able to maintain the natural characteristics of the façade, since it does not clog the pores or lose its breathability or waterproofing capacity.

In fact, the consolidant helps to recover the hydrophobic capacity of the support to expel the water accumulated inside.

The final result is a mineral varnish, which is also ecological. It is not harmful to the skin, the mucous membranes, the eyes or the respiratory tract, and it is not flammable either.

The wall and facade fixer can be applied on various types of surface

This stone wall fixer can be used on structures that have been built with calcareous stones.

Likewise, it is very effective on siliceous surfaces and in the grouting of stone walls.

In addition, it is suitable for modern constructions with brick walls that have lost their properties over time, as well as concrete.

In traditional mud brick works, it helps to recover its original hardness. Plaster or plasterboard linings that have been affected by damp processes or leaks can also be recovered.

In general, any porous surface is capable of absorbing the product and benefiting from all its properties.

How to rehabilitate an old stone or brick facade?

The rehabilitation of a facade of these characteristics requires following a series of steps to achieve quality results.

First of all, the first thing you should do is check the source of the problem. Each material has its own characteristics and suffers differently from the action of the elements such as rain or wind.

Facades and walls that release dust.- How to apply the wall fixative and hardener?

In these cases, the first thing you should do is thoroughly clean the support on which you will carry out the repair.

Help yourself with a wire brush to remove most of the most damaged layer.

You will notice that in this type of walls you can loosen small pieces of stone simply with your fingers, an unequivocal sign that they have suffered great deterioration.

If so, it will be necessary to clean up the entire area until the eroded material is completely eliminated.

Subsequently, it is advisable to lightly pass a cleaning brush to remove the dust and residues that have remained attached to the area.

If you are going to apply it to the floor, use a vacuum cleaner and thoroughly sweep the entire area to ensure that the liquid penetrates the support.

If the floor has been used as a parking lot or garage, it is possible that it has traces of oil or grease.

If so, you must carry out a thorough cleaning, which eliminates any residue that may hinder the action of the fixative.

It is very important to achieve good penetration of the product, especially in old concrete.

Once you have everything ready, you will be ready to use the fixative by following the directions for use that you can read carefully in the product sheet of the silicate consolidant, or fixative and wall hardener and that we briefly explain here.

Mix well.-   The first thing you should do is homogenize the fixative.   To do this, the most effective thing is to stir all the liquid for a few seconds with the help of a small work mixer or using a wooden stick.

Depending on the size of the surface to be treated, you have the option of completing the project with a paint gun, a spray gun, airles, etc… using a roller or a brush.   Being an ecological, mineral and water-based product, you can clean all the tools under a tap when you finish the job.

To improve the result, we recommend that you give several coats, with a small amount of fixative, so that the support can gradually absorb it, before finishing the job.

In this way you will not saturate the wall or the support on which you are applying the wall fixer, and you will achieve a better penetration of the product.

Plastering and plastering of the rehabilitated walls

At the time of finishing the work, if you do not want to leave the stone exposed, we recommend that you use a lime-based mortar that maintains the correct transpiration of the partition and prevents the accumulation of humidity.

You also have the possibility of using  breathable paints that do not allow water to enter the wall and facilitate the evacuation of what has been generated. For example silicate paints

Another alternative that will help you increase the habitability inside is to carry out a lining , both with laminated plaster and with bricks.

In both cases, it is important that you incorporate an insulator that has a vapor barrier to prevent humidity from the environment from penetrating towards the wall that you have repaired.

In addition, this action will allow you to improve the thermal efficiency of the building and you will achieve considerable energy savings.

As you have seen, renovating an old wall is more than possible. You will only need a fixing liquid for walls and facades to restore its natural properties and extend its useful life without the need for costly reforms.
